Many a times we tend to forget that all our provision is from our Heavenly Father. As it is rightly mentioned in James 1:17 "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
In 1 Kings 17, even when there was no dew nor rain in the whole land, God provided for the devout of God, Elijah. We can see that God assured Elijah to hide in Kerith Ravine where he can drink from the brook and God ordered ravens to provide food for Elijah. It takes an enormous amount of trust to believe God’s Word in a time when the whole land is under famine and drought and waiting for a raven to bring him food EVERYDAY! But Elijah trusted God whole-heartedly and the Scripture says that Elijah did what the LORD told him and he waited patiently. In a time of crisis, it is common to be faint at heart and be discouraged. We tend to focus at the circumstances rather than the God who provided for us in the past. But if we look unto Him for provision, He will provide for us in extraordinary ways. Can we imagine that the ordinary ravens would bring us bread and meat in the morning and in the evening? That’s our our extra-ordinary God provides - beyond our imagination!
Certain worldly provisions might get blocked and might slip out of our hands, but take to heart that if it was a provision opened by God, none can shut it. Even though the brook in Kerith Ravine dried up, God's provision through the ravens did not end. Even when your sources of provision dries up, God is able to open the storehouses of Heaven to meet all of your needs.
These thoughts encouraged me when I was going through a depressing stage in my life. I was selected for a national scholarship from India during my graduate studies in the US which was allocated to cover my entire tuition and living expenses for my Masters. I was joyous on hearing the news of selection as it will lighten my financial burdens since I had taken a huge education loan. But within couple of days, I was notified that they cannot issue it due to some politics. I was sorrowful and didn’t understand why my provision was shut, even though the plan and purpose to come to the US was from God. But now, looking back I understand why God shut that provision. It was for a greater joy and greater purpose. God wanted to provide in other ways and wanted other plans to unfold in my life which wouldn’t have happened if I had received that Scholarship.
NONE can shut God's provision for your life! Proclaim this with faith over your life! God will not fail you! He is a good Father who gives us good and perfect gifts and will never changes His love towards us!
